Kenneth Theophilus Nagle, 82, of Clarksville, Virginia, passed away on March 26, 2007 at Duke University Hospital after a long illness. He was born on May 28, 1924, in Astoria, New York, the son of the late Theophilus Nagle and Elsie Johanna Thomson Nagle. Mr. Nagle was raised in Bellerose, NY, where he attended school, was a child model for the Powers Model Agency for Buster Brown clothes and graduated from Jamaica High School. A veteran of World War II, he joined the army in 1943 and was stationed at Camp Hale in Colorado with the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troop. He served in Italy in 1944 and received the Bronze Star Medal and other numerous medals for his service. After his discharge in 1945, Kenneth enlisted in the National Reserve and attended Officers Training School in Ft. Benning, Georgia and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. After his discharge from the Army Reserve in 1948, he graduated from Pace College (now Pace University) in 1949 with a BBA degree in accounting and worked for Lybrand Ross Brothers (now known as Price Waterhouse) in New York as an accountant. He married Rita Stapleton in 1954 and moved to Garden City where he and his wife raised two sons, Brian and Jeffrey. The family was active in the First Presbyterian Church where Kenneth served as President of the Church Trustees, Cub Master of the church's Scout Pack and President of the Couples Club. He was a Life Member of the Volunteer Fire Department and past president of the Garden City Assembly. Kenneth also served as Past President of the Financial Executives Institute, Garden City Chapter, was a member of the Garden City Golf Club and Cherry Valley Country Club, the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troop, honored 40 year member of the Key Club of Financial Executives International. Kenneth's business career covered his serving as Treasurer of James Talcott, New York City; CEO of US Industries, New York City; Assoceates, South Bend, Indiana; Albuquerque Federal Bank, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Concord Group, Norwalk, Connecticut.
After retirement, the Nagles moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina where Kenneth attended real estate school and became a broker. He also served as a tour guide for the Carl Sandburg Estate. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina for five years, the Nagles decided to move to Clarksville, Virginia, where Kenneth served on The Heritage Foundation and the Prestwould Foundation.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey C. Nagle, his sister, Elsie May Tully Nagle, and his brother, Wallace Nagle. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Stapleton Nagle and son Brian; niece Nancy Salzinger Tully, of Amityville; and nephew George Tully of Long Island.
