Players Innocent In Duke Lacrosse Case All charges were dropped this week against three Duke University lacrosse players, including one from Garden City, who had been charged with rape in a case which gained national notoriety due to apparent prosecutorial misconduct. On Wednesday, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper declared the three men, Collin Finnerty, Reade Seligmann and David Evans innocent of all charges The Attorney General commented, "This case shows the enormous consequences of overreaching by a prosecutor." Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong, the prosecutor in the case, now faces charges of ethics violations by the North Carolina Bar Association over his handling of the case. The Bar Association charged him with withholding information from defense attorneys and lying to the court. During a press conference after the announcement of innocence, defense attorneys wouldn't rule out the possibility of the young men filing a civil lawsuit against Nifong.
