Workshop on digital cameras The Recreation Department will sponser a workshop on "All About Digital Cameras" on Tuesday, April 24 from 10 am to noon at the Senior Center in the St. Paul's Cottages. This workshop will be run by Sharper Training Solutions. The workshop will help you in using a digital camera and picking the best camera for your needs. This workshop is free but pre-registration is necessary so call the Recreation Office at 465-4076 to register for this program. attention men's senior tennis players A tournament sponsored by the Garden City Recreation Department and the USTA is being held on Wednesday, April 18 th from 8 a.m. to noon. this event is open to any man, aged 60 or older, who is a resident of th Inc. Village of garden city. the tournament will be in round robin format and partners will be rotated. Prizes will be awarded. The cost for this event will be $12.50. Please call the Community Park Tennis Center to register at 483-2525. jewelry making workshop There will be a Jewelry Making Workshop on Tuesday, April 17 th at 1 p.m. in the Senior Center at St. Paul's Linda Redina will lead this demonstration as you learn how to create your own professional style bracelet using genuine gemstones. Participants will be asked for $6 to cover the cost of the supplies needed to complete a bracelet. Pre-registration is necessary and class size is limited. The $6 fee will be collected at the time of registration. prime time travel trip to mystic, ct The Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut on Tuesday, May 8 th. Step back into time where you can experience 19 th Century living through crafts and trades and the people who bring them to life. You will travel by coach bus to Mystic and have plenty of time to explore the Seaport. Lunch is on your own at the Seaport. The cost of this trip will be $53. To register for this trip, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall and bring a deposit check for $25 made payable to "Prime Time Travel" as soon as possible. Space is limited so please register early. tour of the culinary institute and lunch Please join the Recreation Department on a trip with Prime Time Travel to the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park on Tuesday, June 12 th. Participants will have a delicious full course luncheon at the "Caterina de Medici" and then tour this exciting school for some of the best chefs in the country. We will travel by coach bus to the Institute. The cost of this trip will be $83. Please see the article in this column for further details. Wednesday, April 18 - Brown Bag Social - Bring a brown bag lunch at noon and enjoy the company. Thursday, April 19 - Walking group at 11 a.m. Weather permitting, group meets and then walks the grounds of St. Paul's, then retires to the Senior Center to eat their brown bag lunches. Create! At 1 p.m. - Come join our group that meets every Thursday to make items for the Winthrop Hospital Children's Wing. Garden City Retired Mens Club The Garden City Retired Men's Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political. All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, in the State of New York, are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested in joining us, please come by. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto 248-9022. The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday, and offers two regulation size pool tables, television, cards/tables and board games, as well as outdoor bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Programs Committee is playing a very active speaker program. Come join us!!! Monday April 30 - Ross Mongiardo will speak on "Financial Planning for Retirees". Atlantic City Trips To Trump Casino The Atlantic City trips will become a regular monthly feature. Ed Palkot has arranged to join with our friends of the Knights of Columbus for a combined trip to Trump Casino. The buses will leave at 8 a.m. from the parking facility near the State Bank in the Stop and Shop mall on Hillside Avenue, near the city line. Your car may be left in the parking field until the bus returns sometime after 6 p.m. The next four trips planned are: Monday, May 14th; Monday June 28th; Monday, July 23; and Monday August 27th. A check in the amount of $22 should be made out to K of C Seniors and given to or mailed to Ed Palkot, 50 Fairmont Blvd., Garden City, NY 11530. Mongiardo, Certified Financial Planner, will be the featured at the Monday, April 30th meeting at 1 p.m. He will address financial issues facing retirees, including portfolio management, long term care insurance and estate reviews. Ross, who practices in Garden City and resides here with his wife and three children, is president of his firm, which he founded in 1990. His professional credentials include Certified Financial Planner, Certified Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter. Ross is past president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Investment Committee of the Garden City Community Church. Tuesday Morning To Become Exercise Time In the near future, we will be scheduling a Tuesday morning come together exercise time. If you are interested in keeping yourself in shape, or brining yourself to a better shape, come on down and join the group. Under the watchful eye and tutelage of our charming instructress, you will slowly develop into a lean, mean, muscular machine. More details to follow. Happy Birthday / Cookout Party On Thursday, June 14th we will join with our fellow members who are celebrating their 85th, 90th or 95th birthday any day during 2007. We're planning a gala day for the birthday boys. We also invite any Garden City male resident non-member of the Retired Men's Club, who will celebrate his 85th, 90th or 95th birthday to join us as our guest.
