If you or anyone you know is in need of some comfort and prayers to sustain you through a time of trial, do not hesitate to call upon the Cathedral Prayer Shawl Ministry. The mission of the Cathedral Prayer Shawl Ministry is to create shawls prayerfully for recipients. When the shawls are completed, they are offered a final prayer before being sent on their way to comfort someone in need. The recipients to date have been those suffering from debilitating illnesses, those in frail health, those in mourning and those who have other special needs for prayer. The care and the love of knitting or crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Shawls have been a symbol of an inclusive, unconditional love. They wrap, enfold, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. As the blessing for a completed prayer shawl says, "May the one who receives this shawl be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace and wrapped in love."
The seventeenth shawl, completed by Pamela Tietjen, of the Cathedral Prayer Shawl Ministry, was blessed at the 9:30 a.m. Mass for use by Katherine. The next scheduled meeting for the Prayer Shawl Ministry is scheduled for Sunday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m., between Masses, in the Undercroft of the Cathedral. If you would like to join this group, no experience is necessary, just a giving heart.
To request a prayer shawl for yourself or someone you know is in need, or for more information about joining the Prayer Shawl Ministry, call the Cathedral Office at 746-2955 and leave a message for Deacon Connie Lorenz or Kathy Janoff.
