Town Honors SAA Chairman

Hempstead Town Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino (2nd left) attends the 41st Annual Gentleman's St. Patrick's Dinner hosted by the Friends of Mercy Medical Center at the Hempstead Golf and Country Club. Councilman Santino presents an official Town of Hempstead Certificate of Recognition to the event's honoree, Gerry Oakes of Garden City (2nd right) honoring his chairmanship of Swim Across America (SAA) - Nassau-Suffolk Committee, a position that he has held since its inception in 2001. SAA has raised more than $13.5 million for cancer research, prevention and treatment by hosting various swimming events across the country. Another SAA beneficiary is the M.I.R.A.C.L.E. (Making In-Roads Against Cancers' Lasting Effects) Pavilion at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre. To date, SAA has contributed over $1 million to Mercy for the M.I.R.A.C.L.E. Pavilion.
