Baseball High School Preview The Varsity Baseball Squad enters the 2007 season looking to defend their Nassau County Class A Baseball title. The Trojans face the challenge of a difficult schedule, along with replacing pitching standouts Matt Petiton and Joe Cesarini. The Trojans were 74 and 9 over the last 3 seasons with Petiton and Cesarini anchoring a solid pitching staff. Coach Rich Smith enters his 35 th season as head coach. Along with his coaching staff of Charles Menges, Mike Sweeney and Mark Buthorn, their outlook is optimistic for he coming season. The Trojans will carry a squad of 22 players. They return 10 players and will add 12 juniors from last year JV Squad. The JV recorded a 19-1 record last season. The pitching staff will be led by Senior Rob Finneran an All Conference selection. He recorded a 6-2 record with a 1.97 era. Ryan Maloney and Colin Ridgway could round out the starting rotation. Matt Barnes, Andrew Cauchi, Andrew Rocco, Terry Curtin and Pat Sylvester round out the staff. Catching duties will be the responsibility of Kevin Volpe, Pat Carney and Paul Chilelli. Pat Sylvester, Kevin O'Hanlon and Ridgway will handle first base. The infield will consist of Fred Stutzmann and Andrew rocco at 2B. Rob Finneran, Rob Fargnoli and Andrew Cauchi will play SS. Fargnolo will also see playing time in centerfield. All conference selection Matt Emmert (3 yr starter) and Will Volz are at 3B. Emmert is expected to lead the Torjan offense. Last season he batted .433, scored 34 runs and has 20 rbi's. The outfield will consist of Tom Lapinski, Ryan Sweeney, Justin Kirschner, Kevin Derle, Don McKennett, Kyle Boelsen and Terry Curtin. The team will travel over spring break to Southern Virginia on their 35 th Baseball High School Preview Annual Baseball Trip.
