Storm Wins Girls GCAA Intramurals
After a slow start to begin the season, the girls all rallied together to begin playing some great basketball. They all put in a tremendous effort and had a lot of fun doing so. The playoffs were delayed due to the snow and the Storm had to face the Comets in the semifinals. It was a very close game throughout against a very well matched team. Katie Gillan, Cailee McCarthy and Tierney Minion kept the game close in the first half. With their backs to the wall and facing elimination, the Storm was down by 4 points with 2 minutes left to play. Great team defense led by Lindsey DeMars and Kerrian Ernenwein held the Comets scoreless in the final two minutes as the Storm was able to tie the game and send it to overtime. Led by Taylor George, the Storm was able to pull off the two-point overtime victory to a great Comets team. The final game found the Storm against another very tough opponent in the Monarchs. After a slow scoring half by both teams, the second half was full of excitement for everyone who filled the gym. Once again, the Storm was facing defeat as they were down by 5 points midway through the second half. Becky Reifler, Jamie Silk and Shannon Kelly sparked the come back as they were able to overcome the deficit and eventually take the lead. Great defense by Amanda Medjid and Bridget Shea helped seal the two-point victory as the Storm won the final game of the season. It was a terrific game played by both teams. All of the coaches are very proud of how the girls improved throughout the year. Congratulation to the Storm for a great season!!
