Day Of Reflection At Mercer School

On Saturday, March 31, a Day of Reflection will be held at the George Mercer, Jr. School of Theology on the campus of The Cathedral of the Incarnation. In preparation for Holy Week, The Reverend Canon Dr. Denis C. Brunelle will be facilitating the day filled with many opportunities for reflection and preparation for Easter. Father Brunelle is the Director of the Mercer School which is part of The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. He began his ministry as a retreat director in the Cleveland, Ohio area. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1978 and worked for four years out of the MSC Center in Shelby, Ohio and the Jesuit Retreat House in Parma, Ohio. He has also served parishes in Ohio, Illinois, California, West Virginia and Long Island.

His other current ministries now involve him as the Bishop's Liaison for the Vocational Deacons of the Diocese of Long Island, Chair of the Diocesan Commission on Liturgy and Church Music, and Canon Precentor of the Cathedral of the Incarnation.

The day will begin with a presentation of 'Shua acted out by Father Brunelle. 'Shua was created by the Reverend William Burke a priest in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Father Burke is a master story-teller who created a boyhood friend of Jesus who narrates fictional stories of Jesus' life from childhood through crucifixion.

Father Brunelle received his M.A. degree in Theatre from San Diego State University and completed his doctoral studies in Medieval Theatre History. He has appeared in many productions over his career and received the Irene Ryan Nomination for Best Acting in a Musical in California. He has performed 'Shua many times and has gotten rave reviews.

The performance of 'Shua will be followed by reflections and opportunities to make the symbolic journey to Jerusalem and Calvary and the journey to a "New Life". Each of those talks will lead into a walk of the labyrinth.

All are invited to participate in this Day of Reflection. Donation for the day is $25 which includes lunch. Further information is available at 248-4800, ext. 40 or e-mail merceroffice@dioceseli.org. What a wonderful way to begin Holy Week!
