A Word From The Publisher Congratulations to the winners of this week's village election and thank you to those who came out to cast a vote. As we said last week, while the candidates are unopposed, voting in the election is a way to show one's support for the Community Agreement. + + + + In the mailbag this week we had a letter whose author unfortunately wanted anonymity. We say unfortunately because the letter was both amusing and made a point that hasn't been heard here recently. So, without technically breaking our "no name withheld letters without a good reason" policy, here is a summary of her comments: According to this writer, LIRR train operators have been a bit exuberant in using their horns at night. The writer counted one train, at 10:46 p.m. which sounded its horn eleven times, and another at 2:15 a.m. which blew the horn at least six times. Apparently there are LIRR employees working on the tracks at night through April 21st, and so there are OSHA rules which require horn blasts. That's understandable, but eleven times seems ridiculous. Our letter writer also provided a phone number to contact the railroad to register a noise complaint: 718-558-8228, or you can write Susan McGowan, Acting VP of Public Affairs, LIRR, Jamaica Station, Jamaica, NY 11435
