Steakhouse Night With Chef Charlie Garden City Public Library

Tuesday, April 3rd 7:00 Pm

Join Chef Charlie as he demonstrates how to make some great dishes that are so popular in all those famous steakhouses. Chef Charlie's down to earth style and sense of humor will ensure all participants of a wonderful experience. And to add to the fun that evening, attendees will get to taste each and every one of the delicious dishes. There is no fee for this class. Registration is required and is limited to Garden City residents. In-person registration will be accepted at the Reference Desk and will begin Sunday, March 25th . VITA Volunteers At Library

VITA volunteers from Hofstra University will be at the Garden City Public Library once again this year to assist patrons with filing their income taxes. The VITA volunteer schedule is as follows:

Saturday, March 17 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Large meeting room

Saturday, March 31 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Small meeting room

VITA volunteers will see patrons strictly on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations will be taken.

Chocolate Buffet

Garden City Public Library

A chocolate lovers idea of heaven- a night of all things CHOCOLATE! Chef and Chocolatier Lee Perrotta will entertain her audience with the history and lure of chocolate. There will be demonstrations and tastings of such delights as French truffles, individual dessert cups, ganache, fudge and much more. Registration is limited to adult Garden City residents and must be done in person. Registration begins Monday, March 19th at 9:30 AM. Senior Connections Advisors

Senior Connections Advisors are available at the Library on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to help senior residents with questions on Medicare, Medicaid, housing, transportation, Village services, etc. No appointments are necessary. Hula Dance Concert & Workshop

Garden City Public Library

Time to shake off the winter blues and shake something else! And, we have just the people who can teach us to do it right. The Aloha Iolani Hula Dance Troupe will be at the Garden City Public Library on Sunday March 18th at 2:00 PM to bring a taste of the Polynesian islands to our island. The company will entertain us with traditional dances from Hawaii and then teach us all to do the Hula. Join us for some fun, a lot of laughs, and a little exercise. "How To Get A Better Night's Sleep"

A special program on sleep will be held on March 22 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. in the church parlor of the Garden City Community Church. The program presentation will be made by Lisa Boren from Premier Sleep Center. The seminar will include information on why sleep is so important, various obstacles that cause us not to have a good night's sleep and sleep tips to help us get a better nights sleep. Please bring a sandwich for lunch, dessert and beverage will be provided by the hostesses Carole Halvorsen and Maxine Cunningham.

Lisa Krebs Borgen is Client Relations Director at Premier Sleep Center, a division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Consultants. The seminar will inform us about how our society believes it is the norm not to sleep and wake up refreshed. A discussion on specific sleep issues existing in the audience will follow the presentation to the group.

Please join us for this informative program and fellowship together and members of the community are welcome to attend. Please call the church office at 746-1700 if you need a ride.

The Garden City Community Church is part of the United Church of Christ. Worship services are Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with the the church school for children and a crib room for infants and toddlers at the later service. Castles In The Sand

Get out your pails and shovels or borrow a set from your children or grandchildren for the Thursday, March 22 program sponsored by the Garden City Department of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead. The program - titled "Castles In The Sand" The Lure of Jones Beach - will be presented by Mr.. John Norbeck. Mr. Norbeck started his career with the New York State Park system at Jones Beach. He then served as Director of Planting Fields Arboretum, as Regional Director of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and after his retirement, he accepted the office of Director of Old Westbury Gardens. He is a very personable gentleman and will delight everyone with his stories and knowledge of Jones Beach. He is also responsible for starting a Museum about Jones Beach that opened last year.

We all have our memories of Jones Beach and this will be of special interest to most of us. Members are encouraged to bring friends to enjoy the program and the Tea Hour that follows.
