"Controlling Pain: A Comprehensive Approach" The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs will present a workshop entitled "Controlling Pain: A Comprehensive Approach." This program, the fourth one in the Department's series of Gerontology Workshops 2007, will be held on Thursday, April 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Smeal Learning Center, 201 I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Older persons, their caregivers, professionals in the aging network, and members of the community at large are invited to attend this workshop which will be offered free-of-charge. Registration is required in advance. Controlling pain is an important issue for many older persons. However, in order to appropriately manage pain, individuals must first be able to identify the type and range of pain being experienced in order to be able to describe symptoms to a medical professional. Once the symptoms are identified, treatment options vary widely. Charles Argoff, M.D., Director of the Cohn Pain Management Center of the North Shore/LIJ Health System will discuss the differences between occasional or constant and chronic or acute pain, and the differences in response patterns between older and younger patients. Attendees will also learn about the different pain control options that are available and the importance of balancing the variety of these modalities. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and to reserve a seat for this workshop, please call the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs at 227-8900. Directions and parking instructions will be forwarded upon registration. | |||||
