Choral Society To Perform

On Saturday, April 28, at 8:00 p.m. the Waldorf Choral Society, under the direction of George V. Rose, will perform a concert of Te Deums at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Avenue, Garden City, Long Island.

The Te Deum is an early Christian hymn of praise and thanksgiving that has been set to music by many renowned composers. The Waldorf Choral Society's program will present a varied array of settings for this beautiful hymn, including Handel's " Te Deum in D Major (Dettingen)," Britten's rarely-performed "Festival Te Deum," and Dvorak's stirring " Te Deum (Opus 103)." The concert will feature a full orchestra, the Cathedral's famous pipe organ, and the following renowned soloists: Elizabeth Farnum, soprano, Vaughn Fritts, Bass; Jonathan goodman, tenor, and Melissa Maravel, alto.

George V. Rose was the music director of the Waldorf School in Garden City, where he taught for 35 years. He was also a conductor of choral music for ABC-TV and has conducted at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. The Waldorf Choral Society, founded in 1965, has become known for the excellence and variety of its performances.

Tickets, priced at $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors and $5 for children under twelve, can be purchased at the door, or by calling 516-747-4457.
