Chamber To Honor Rob Rothschild As Citizen Of The Year
Rob has lived in Garden City since 1983, and has been a resident of the Estates Section since 1986. He was elected to the position of Garden City Village Trustee representing the Estates Section in 2003. Rob acquired significant experience in local government through his active involvement in the Garden City community since moving here. His participation in the Property Owners' Association of the Estates Section of the Village dates back to the early 1990's where he served as a director; member of various committees, including the Fifteen Member Nominating Committee; vice president and ultimately, president. Rob chaired the Estates Traffic Committee, a position in which he was responsible for the presentation of resident requests for traffic control changes within the Estates area. As a member of the Board of Trustees, Rob has served as chairman of the Traffic Commission, chairman of the Environmental Advisory Board, Liaison Trustee for the Recreation and Planning Commissions, the Architectural Design Review Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Police Department and the Chamber of Commerce. Always putting the needs of the residents first, Rob Rothschild has always advocated the importance of a balanced and vibrant commercial district to enhance the quality of life of all residents and to stabilize our tax base. In 1996, he was appointed by the mayor to be the Estates POA representative on the Business Planning Coalition. This Coalition, made up of residents and businesses owners, formulated the plan for the revitalization of the Village commercial district. On behalf of the Coalition, Rob presented the report to the Village Board in January 1997. The recommendations in this report continue to be successfully implemented to this day. Rob has always encouraged residents to participate in Village activities. As a member of the Village Audit Committee, he supported the appointment of Village residents to the Citizens Budget Committee to review Village expenditures and budget costs focusing on the necessity, the method, and the means by which particular services are provided to the public. The committee members will be expected to offer possible recommendations to slow the every increasing tax burden on Village residents. Serving as the chair of the Public Information Committee, Rob managed the development of the "Village Facts" newsletter regarding the status of the historic main building at St. Paul's and the presentation of options available for the property. He also worked closely with the Chamber and the Village in the defeat of the Saks Fifth Avenue expansion at Roosevelt Field that would have adversely affected Garden City with traffic and other environmental issues. In 1999 Rob was honored as a board member of the Long Island March of Dimes for his contributions to that organization. From 1993 to 2005, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Housing Partnership. He is a member of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation; is current director of the Men's Association of the Garden City High School and coached soccer, softball and basketball teams for GCAA, GC Centennials and St. Joseph's. For ten years, Rob served as co-director of St. Joseph's pre-cana program, with his wife Valerie. Professionally, Rob is the Senior Vice President in charge of Commercial Real Estate Lending for Signature Bank. He is a graduate of St. John's University where he received B.S. and M.B.A. degrees. Rob has been married to Valerie for 33 years and they have two daughters, Claudia and Claire. Rob Rothschild will share honors at the Pineapple Ball with Rob Salvatico, recipient of the Community Achievement Award, and Stephanie Cullum, Garden City's Business Person of the Year.
