GCAA Travel Basketball

All fourteen of our teams continue to play at a very high level as the Island Garden season nears completion. Twelve of our fourteen teams will move forward into the playoffs which begin the week of March 19th. Here are the latest highlights: KELLY 5TH BOYS continue to move their record towards the .500 mark led by the rebounding of Pat Finneran and the defense of Mark DeSantis and Jack Gillan..........Now tied for 2nd in their division with a 9-6 record, TULLY 5TH BOYS have been paced by the play of Kieran Byrnes and Kyle Driscoll......GRANVILLE 4TH BOYS behind the passing and playmaking of Brian Colamussi and Ryan Smith remain in the top five in their league........RAPHAEL 8TH BOYS continue to top their division with a fine 13-4 ledger.......With a 10-5 record CAPETOLA 7TH BOYS have forged to a tie for first place in their league.......The backcourt play of Lauren Miesmer and Alexis Leighton has paced RAPHAEL 4TH GIRLS to an 8-6 record, good for a tie for 3rd, and still the best record amongst all 4th grade girls teams........Kathleen Burke's shooting has been a spark for BASEL 4TH GIRLS.........WALCZYK 4TH GIRLS warmed up for the playoffs last week with two more wins to bring their record to an outstanding 14-2, easily best in their division........CAFARO 5TH GIRLS won their only contest last week to improve to 8-3, good for a tie for 3rd place.............The defense of Alex Bruno and Megan Harney has propelled KIFFEL 7TH GIRLS to a respectable 9-5 mark and a tie for 4th place in their division............The backcourt of Jenna Fuchs and Catherine McTiernan continues to be a highlight for BASEL/CAPETOLA 7TH GIRLS.......For complete standings, schedules and possible playoff matchups check the leagues website, www.islandgarden.com.
