Levittown Lecture

Barbara Minerd, program Coordinator for the Friends of the Garden City Library, is shown with Joshua Ruff, history curator of The Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages. On Thursday, February 22nd, Mr. Ruff presented a slide and DVD lecture commemorating the forthcoming 60th anniversary of the construction of Levittown. This was the largest and most influential postwar suburban development and its larger-than-life developer, William Levitt, fought to secure adequate affordable housing for a whole new generation of Americans. Funding for this program was provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library.
