Community Club Focuses On Special Education

Lillian La Plac, department chairwoman, left, and guest speaker Melissa Bradley.
Public schools in the United States are mandated to provide special education for all children who need this assistance. Melissa Bradley, who has 13 years of experience in this field, was the speaker at the Community Club on February 22nd at the Garden City Casino.

An IEP (individual education plan), which is a legal document, is worked out for each child based on their individual needs. Mrs. Bradley's specialty is Pre-school Special Education and she has worked with medically fragile, physically disabled and emotionally/behaviorally challenged children. She was most gracious in answering the many questions from members and their guests attending the program.

Lillian LaPlac, chairwoman of the Americanism/Current Event Department of the Community Club, was assisted by: Veronica Witt, who greeted members at the door; Ann Heinzelmann, who welcomed guests; Josephine Krawczyk, who did the decorating; Joseph Cotugno, Marie Bartolotta and Martha Widner, who handled the hospitality and Ann Heinzelmann and Maybelle Schein, who served at the tea table.

The Community Club offers a variety of programs, trips and creative art courses from October through May. For more information about the community Club call 747-0488 Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
