Surgeons From GC Practice Establish Pro Bono Clinic In China

Three internationally-renowned board-certified plastic surgeons from Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, P.C. (LIPSG), of Garden City, recently traveled to China to create a joint US-Chinese pro bono surgery clinic in Beijing. This joint effort is a partnership between two medical giants - LIPSG, the largest plastic surgery group in the U.S., and Evercare Medical Institute and Medical Group, the largest in China.

The creation of this clinic will enable doctors to perform cleft lip and palate operations on Chinese patients for free; and eventually will offer pro bono surgery to other Chinese patients. The Chinese Red Cross and a group of Chinese actors donated more than half a million dollars to initially fund the clinic and to establish this Sino American Surgery Foundation.

While in Beijing, LIPSG surgeons: Dr. Gene Lee, Dr. Vincent DiGregorio, and Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh, also led the First International Beijing Plastic Surgery Symposium. Doctors from across China and around the world who attended the event learned new techniques and procedures from these respected American surgeons.

"The International nature of this event and the gathering of such open minds means that we are learning as well as teaching," said Dr. DiGregorio, a senior LIPSG plastic surgeon. "The free exchange of ideas and techniques represents the most current thinking in plastic surgery today."

Following the conference, LIPSG surgeons assisted in several surgical cases, including a cleft lip and palate operation and reconstructive breast surgery after a mastectomy. Doctors from LIPSG plan to travel to China each year to perform similar pro bono surgeries on Chinese patients.

The Sino American Surgical Foundation is in Beijing and will assist patients throughout China. For more information on Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, P.C., visit www.lipsg.com
