Winthrop-University Hospital will host its sixth annual Swim-a-Thon on Sunday, April 22, from 7:00 - 11:30 AM at Hofstra University's Swim Center. Open to swimmers age six and older, the event was initiated in 2002. Since then, more than $78,000 has been raised to benefit the Hospital's Pediatric Fund for the Future.
"The Swim-a-Thon has become a tradition that attracts swimmers of all ages and abilities, and draws a tremendous amount of support from the community," said Ronald Marino, DO, MPH, Associate Chairman and Director of General Pediatrics at Winthrop. "Every lap goes a long way to supporting the quality pediatric services that Winthrop provides to thousands of sick children every year."
Community members are invited to pledge laps either as a swimmer or a swimmer's sponsor. Participants will enjoy free stroke instruction from Total Immersion Swimming, massage therapy by Denise Cook, RN, music by the Garden City High School jazz ensemble and Central Beat rock band, raffles and prizes.
