UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY TO CONDUCT A PUBLIC MEETING ON THE FULTON AVENUE GARDEN CITY PARK SUPERFUND SITE On Tuesday evening, March 6th, at 7:00 p.m., the United States Environmental Protection Agency will be conducting a public meeting at the Garden City Village hall to discuss cleanup alternatives for the Fulton Avenue Superfund site in Garden City Park. Beginning in 1986, numerous investigations were conducted by the Nassau County Departments of Health and Public Works to identify the sources of volatile organic compounds that were impacting a number of water wells located down gradient of the Fulton Avenue site, including the Village of Garden City Wells 13 and 14 located at the Garden City Country Club. Since 1988 the Village has been effectively cleaning this plume through the use of air stripping towers at the well sites. It is a very expensive process and litigation against the potentially responsible party Genesco, Inc., has been commenced to recover the Village's remediation costs. ST.
