"Thank You" these two words are two of the most important words in the English language and possibly also in any language. They are not used often enough, but when they are used they give both the person saying them and the person to whom they are said a very good feeling of being appreciated. Needless to say, Thank You Notes - written that is - are just a thing of the past. I am therefore writing to say Thank You to our publisher Meg Morgan Norris for her tip on its being time to take down the Christmas Wreaths. They tend to look not only tacky at this time of the year, they are also looking dead - brown that is and that's the first clue to remind you to take them down.

I would also like to thank John Ellis Kordes for his wonderful article with photos on the Changing Face of our town. One can learn a lot from that article and hopefully also learn that we don't have that much left - therefore a lot to lose. Thank you very much John.

The Garden City Casino held their monthly Ladies Luncheon/Bridge recently and enjoying the afternoon were Jean Tomitz, Pat Weber, Valerie Lemkul, Joan Schieck, Barbara Haynes, and Joan O'Connell. The Casino folk also passed around an invitation to a Brunch/Bridge that would be open to everyone. It will take place on a Sunday in March so if you are interested you may call the Casino President - Connie Lockwood for more information.

Speaking of Bridges, the Cherry Valley Club held their February Dinner/Bridge this past week and there were 21 tables in play following the delicious Buffet Dinner. The first Small Slam of the evening was dealt, bid and made by Marion and George Cordes.

There was no Grand Slam that evening, but the two Door Prizes were won by Joy Cody and Kay Toomey. Bridge Chairman Dr. George Rivara announced that the next Dinner/Bridge would be held on Wednesday, March 21st. Others enjoying the evening were Adele Reilly, Marie Scott, Suzanne Barnes, and Lucille Berryman.

On Sunday, March 11th at 1 p.m. the folks at Clark Botanic Garden will hold a "Fireside Chat" with Neal Gish presenting

"Did you know This About Long Island.? A history teacher since 1969 Mr. Gish also worked with Newsday and News 12 Long Island covering aspects of Long Island history. You can enjoy the program and refreshments for $8 per member or $10 for non-members. What a nice way to spend a Winter afternoon.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Don Muller, who will be celebrating his special day on March 8th. May you have many more happy years ahead and enjoy good health along with those happy years.

Ann Short and her daughter took advantage of the Mid-Winter break to get some skiing in before Spring came. No need to rush as I think the snow will be with us on the slopes for some time to come. Hope you two had a good time.

Jean Schmutz has arranged a great program at the Garden City Library for March 5th at 7:30 p.m. It's called 'Libraries Today and Tomorrow" and it will be conducted by Catherine Sagewick of the Mineola Library and Marie Courtney from the Roslyn Library. It's not just checking out books anymore and this will be of interest to many. Lauren Clune and Ann Senchyshyn will welcome you.

It's getting to be time to think about planting flowers and Meghan's Pansies will be featured in the Pink Ribbon Garden at Hicks Nurseries. The Garden is planted to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Meghan's Pansies are in memory of Meghan Halloran, a Garden City resident, who succumbed to Breast Cancer at the age of 31. Her Dad, Larry Kenny, works at Hicks and started the fund to benefit the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. The Pansies like cool weather and lift spirits with their perky faces. Do think of Meghan and help per Dad and plant some pansies this Spring. See you next week.
