Cathedral Sponsors Habitat For Humanity Meeting

There will be an informational meeting for Habitat for Humanity at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Sunday, March 18, following the 9:30 a.m. Family Mass. The meeting will be held in the Resurrection Chapel in the undercroft of the church. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit ecumenical Christian housing organization building simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 200,000 houses, providing shelter for more than 1 million people, in nearly 100 countries around the world. A new Habitat house is completed somewhere in the world every 24 minutes. Habitat affiliates work locally in communities around the world to select and support homeowners, organize volunteers and coordinate house building. Currently, Habitat for Humanity is completing a home in the community of West Hempstead. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay their mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Homeowners and volunteers build the houses themselves, under trained supervision. No prior knowledge or talent for building is necessary. There are all sorts of jobs to be done in order to complete a home. Come and learn about volunteer opportunities and be part of those who raise the roof or sheetrock! For further information about this meeting call the Cathedral Office at 746-2955 and speak to Father Joseph.
