Girls Track Finishes Outstanding Season

The Garden City High Girls Varsity Track & Field team finished an outstanding winter season by capturing the Conference and Nassau County Titles. Way to go girls!

The team has made its presence known in Nassau County through positive coaching and hard work fueled by the collective winning attitude of all the girls.

The team has depth, talent and versatility. Coach Erica Fregosi has often commented that one of her biggest challenges is to decide who will run and in which event! This is evidenced by the team sending 8 of its members to Cornell University on March 3 to compete in the State Championship Meet.

Garden City will compete in multiple events at the State Meet. The Nationally ranked 4 x 800m relay team consisting of juniors Brooke Senken, Maddie Adams, Victoria Chemento and freshman Emily Menges supported by junior Elizabeth Slattery and freshman Katie Reilly will look to break its own school record in preparation for the upcoming Nike Nationals. Senken and Menges are tasked with double duty as each will be competing in the very competitive 1000m open event. Only 3 runners from Nassau County are able to qualify for this event and Garden City has captured 2 of those slots!

Senior Emily Hepworth will compete in the 55m dash and senior Mary Kelly will compete in the 1500m walk. On the field events side, senior Amanda Joyce will compete in the shot put event.

Good luck to girls in the upcoming weeks. Make Garden City proud!
