Just imagine: No mall at Roosevelt Field, no cell phones, no computers, and no TV. Fourth and fifth grade students at Stewart School recently glimpsed what life was like back in the "good old days," before all of these innovations, through the eyes of Althea Robinson, Executive Director of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.
"Mrs. Robinson graciously shared memories of her school days at Stewart," Stewart Teacher Dolores Volpe said. "She recalled the daily trip home for lunch, as well as Saturday morning double features, ice cream at the local drugstore soda fountain, and radio shows like Superman and The Lone Ranger."
Ms. Robinson's presentation is part of a primary research project on the history of Stewart School that students are conducting in preparation for the school's 70th birthday celebration on Tuesday, May 15.
