Complementary Medicine And Women's Wellness

Complementary Medicine and Women's Wellness, a seminar by Dr. Mariana Markell, will be presented by the Health Committee of the Long Island Women's Agenda (LIWA) on Tuesday, April 24, at Adelphi University's Alumni Center in Garden City. Networking and a light supper begin at 5:15 pm, with the seminar scheduled to begin at 6:15 pm.

Dr. Mariana Markell, MD, FACP, will explore the integration of current medical practices with complementary and alternative medicine, including meditation, massage, acupuncture, reflexology, yoga and aromatherapy.

Dr. Markell is a transplant nephrologist at SUNY Downstate Medical Center where she utilizes the best of allopathic and complementary therapies with her patients. At SUNY Downstate, she served as director of transplant medicine for 13 years. From 2002 to 2006, Dr. Markell was the director of the Office of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the North Shore-LIJ Health System, where she created clinical services and research endeavors to help patients. Dr. Merkell has published widely, received multiple research grants and holds an associate professorship in medicine.
