Lunch Bag Book Talk Tuesday, March 20th 12:00PM-2:00PM
Reference Librarians Mrs. Flanagan and Mrs. Byrne are pleased to be moderating another one of their popular LunchBag BookTalk's. This talk will include the reading of two books, so we can compare and contrast. In Chris Bohjalian's astonishing new novel, The Double Bind, nothing is what it seems to be at first. Not the bucolic Vermont back roads Laurel Eastbrook liked to bike. Not the savage assault she suffers there. And certainly not Bobbie Crocker, the homeless man she comes to know after the attack. Bohjalian has crafted a narrative of dazzling invention and psychological complexity that engages the issues of homelessness and, mental illness and draws from the elusive desires and haunting sorrows of The Great Gatsby. You can't fully appreciate the literary richness of TheDouble Bindwithout some familiarity with the characters and themes of The Great Gatsby,F. Scott Fitzgerald's dazzling Jazz Age classic. For that reason we will be reading both books for the March 20th LunchBag BookTalk. Registration must be done in person and begins Monday, February 26th and is limited to Garden City residents. For further information please call Laura Flanagan at The Garden City Public Library 742-8405.
