Boys Varsity Basketball Beats Glen Cove

Garden City's boys varsity basketball team got the lift they needed after defeating Glen Cove on January 31st. Upon entering the game, the team had a 4-4 record in Conference A-IV. Pat Reeves provided a huge spark both offensively and defensively by contributing four first quarter points and six rebounds to go with three steals. Harry Kutner lead the Trojans scoring with 17 points including five 3-pointers as Garden City won the game 62-34. Rob Finneran had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for GC while Jeff Fell had four points and six rebounds.

Freshman Matt Montgomery, in his first varsity game, had three points and six assists. With this victory, the team improved it's record to 5-4 and was looking ahead to their next opponent.

In a home game two days later, the team chalked up another win with a 61-47 victory over Sewanhaka. Harry Kutner and Rob Finneran almost duplicated their play from the previous game as Kutner scored 18 points and Finneran scored 17 points with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Ryan Beckstead and Owen Ludeman contributed seven and eight points to the team's victory. Ludeman also stood out defensively by holding Marquis Brown to eleven points. Jeff Fell scored four points and pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.

The Trojans winning streak continued on February 6th with an incredible nail biting win over Lawrence. After trailing 29-17 at the half, GC rallied to a 53-50 victory. John Haskoor had a huge game on both ends of the floor with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Harry Kutner and Rob Finneran kept up their scoring, combining for 32 points.

Hayden Fries added a 3 pointer and Owen Ludeman scored four crucial fourth quarter points to help seal the come-from-behind victory.
