Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem On February 2, 7:05 p.m., a 14-year-old boy on a bicycle was hit by a silver car that left the scene on Meadow Street. The police are investigating the matter.The boy had minor injuries and was taken to Winthrop Hospital... On February 6, police conducted a truck stop where 18 trucks were inspected with 9 trucks taken out of service, 14 for overweight, and with 113 tickets issued. One truck was cited for over length and one driver was cited for a suspended license... Between February 5 and 6, unknown persons cut through several feet of copper pipe and removed 17 face masks valued at $350 each, 2 DeWalt saws valued at $200 each, and 1 $90 screw gun from a building undergoing renovations at Kellum Place...Seven parking signs valued at $100 were removed from a rear lot at 1225 Franklin Avenue this past week... On February 4, 11:46 a.m., PO Hudak observed a 1991 Toyota with a cracked windshield driving on Clinton Rd. and it turned out that the car had been reported stolen from the Third Precinct. The motorist,a 27-year-old Westbury man , was arrested for the crime of grand larceny. He also had a suspended license.... A 44-year-old Franklin Square woman was arrested for allegedly having stolen $731 in merchandise, mostly accessories, and 2 black lace dresses, at Lord and Taylor... On January 30, 9:40 p.m., PO Hickey arrested a 17-year-old Sears employee for allegedly having taken $60 from the cash register there...On the same day, at 6:15 p.m., police arrested a 23-year-old Uniondale woman for allegedly stealing over $200 in items, which included children's clothes and Apostrophe apparel, at Sears...Detectives Rothermel and Madden, arrested a 37-year-old Manhasset man for allegedly driving with a suspended license at 5:10 p.m. on January 31. The motorist was also in possession of clothing he allegedly had stolen from Macy's. He was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation, the criminal possession of stolen property, the possession of burglar tools, and no seatbelt...A 27-year-old Floral Park woman reported that someone had robbed her of her pocketbook at the Merillon RR station on January 30, and after an investigation police determined that the woman had falsified this report and she was charged with making a false written statement...On January 31, police conducted a truck stop and inspected 5 trucks at Washington Avenue on January 31, with 51 tickets issued and 2 trucks taken out of service; 1 cited for overweight... Fire Responses: An alarm needed repairs at Hamilton Garden apartments, on February 1... A plastic can containing some gasoline was found at a curb near HSBC, Seventh Street, on February 2 , and the FD removed it...A curling iron activated smoke at an Earle Hall, Adelphi University dorm,on February 3... Speedidry was used to clean a spill at Stewart Ave./Franklin Ave. on February 4...That's all this week. G. T. |
