In Memoriam
Joseph A. LoPinto, a real estate appraiser whose business merged into Bankers Trust, died at 88. His remarkable life was marked by the philosophy of "find a way or make one." He was born July 15, 1918 in New York City and became a highly respected real estate appraiser of major commercial and investment properties from the East Coast to Hawaii. As a Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and Counselor of Real Estate (CRE), he provided real estate owners, developers, institutional clients and corporations with sound advice and counsel on investments across all real estate types and sectors. After serving in the Pacific during World War II, he began his career with the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). He soon established his own firm, LoPinto-Kelly Associates, an appraisal and investment advisory firm. Subsequently, he became Chief Mortgage Officer with the Camden Trust Company in New Jersey, and later returned to running his own business and established LoPinto Associates incorporated in New York. He ultimately merged his business with Sackman-Gilliland Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bankers Trust Company. He retired in 1981 at 62 years old to pursue his many interests including private real estate investments, woodworking, music and travel. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Rosemary, his son Anthony LoPinto of Duluth, Minnesota and New York City and his daughter-in-law Susan Phillips; his daughter Maryann Horton and son-in-law Jeffrey; and three grandsons: Christopher, Michael, and Douglas, and his granddaughter Tracey Ann Salavator. A private memorial service is planned for the immediate family. Memorial donation may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 210 Wexford Blvd, Venice, FL 34293
