Attend March For Life

To the Editor:

Monday, January 22nd marks the 34th memorial anniversary of the dreadful Supreme Court abortion decisions of 1973. These Planned Parenthood-backed decisions, Roe v. Wade and its companion case, Doe v. Bolton, legalized the unthinkable - the killing of preborn children for the entire nine months of development. The womb, once one of the safest places on earth, became one of the deadliest, where one out of three babies is aborted each year.

The statistics are indeed staggering. The abortion rulings spanned 9 presidential terms and have resulted in more than 51 million abortions - nearly the equal to the combined populations of Texas and California. The 51 million aborted children could fill every seat in Shea Stadium for every home game for 111/2 years!

On Monday in Washington, DC, the 34th annual March For Life will be held. More than 100,000 prolife Americans - representing the fifty states and several foreign countries - will gather in our nation's capital to speak out against abortion and to lobby our elected leaders. We will urge Congress to pass legislation to protect innocent preborn life. Garden City residents wishing to participate in the March For Life may call St. Thomas Rectory at 489-8585 to reserve a seat on their bus to Washington.

If you are unable to attend the March For Life, please consider attending a special evening Mass on Monday, January 22nd at 8:00 PM at St. Joseph's Church. All are invited to gather in prayer for a deepening respect for human life, for the success of the March For Life, and for the safe return of all prolifers to their respective home states and countries.
