Knights Free-Throw Championships

"Msgr. John's Knights" will sponsor the local "Council" Division of the 2007 K of C International Free-Throw Championship from 2 :00 to 4 :30 PM in St. Anne's McCloskey Auditorium, Dartmouth St. and New Hyde Park Road on Sunday, Jan. 21, "Jay" Lynch, Event Coordinator, has announced.

The tournament is open to parish boys and girls from ages 10 to 14 (as of Jan. 1, 2007). No special expertise is required to enter. One competes only agains youngsters of the same age and gender. Registration takes place in McCloskey on the the date of the tourney. Proof of age is required.

Classmates and friends are invited to attend this popular fun activity which will also offer an opportunity to participate in the hilarious Knock-Out basketball games.

Winners of the ten group competitions will be awarded trophies at a "Pizzas & Trophies" family party held in St. Anne's Cafeteria prior to a future regular Council meeting .. Date and time will be announced to winners and their families.

These winners will compete against winners of teams from the Nassau Chapter 17th District and proceed, if successful, through successive levels to the N.Y. State Championships at West Point. International winners are selected from drawings of the best scores of state champions.

In 2006, Msgr. John's Knights reps won a record seven put of 10 titles in the 17th District Champiopnships. And, Leo Driscoll, Jr. advanced to the finals of the State championship taking third place. Driscoll recorded an outstanding 83.5% foul-shooting average (96 ou of 1i5) in hia 2006 run.
