Resident Pays Tribute

To the Editor:

I believe it is appropriate to remember President Gerald R. Ford's involvement in "Operation Babylift" on the time of his passing.

On April 3, 1975, President Ford signed Babylift into law and also signed a Parolee Visa, so that nearly 3,000 Vietnamese War orphans could enter the United States immediately.

He earmarked $2,000,000 to provide for Babylift, and he and Mrs. Ford met the first official Babylift plane when it arrived in California.

His willingness to "do something" for the Vietnam Babylift children who were in harm's way was a great gift to all of the families.
