GCAA Travel Basketball
      Our teams are off and running in a new hoop season. We continue to compete at a very high level in the Island Garden Super League. Winter Floor Hockey Program Announced
      The Garden City Recreation Hockey Staff is proud to announce it will once again offer a Floor Hockey Program this winter at the Field House at St. Pauls. The program will be open to village residents between the ages of 5-15 on select Fridays in both January and February.

Basketball Player Of The Week
      Artie Cutrone , former Garden City High School '05 All-County basketball player, now playing for Colby College, was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week, Eastern College Athletic Conference(ECAC) Division III Player of the Week, and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Player of the Week, for the Week of December 3, 2007.

GCAA Intramurals Off To Strong Start
      The GCAA intramural program kicked off its second weekend on Sat Dec 8th with participation levels at all time highs. The 2nd grade combination clinic/games have been extremely well received with our 2nd graders now playing real games. At present, the GCAA has an outstanding K-1 clinic, over 43 intramural teams and 17 travel teams now in action.

      The following Garden City residents qualified for awards in the 30 th Annual Merrill Lynch Turkey Trot, which was held in the Village on Thanksgiving morning.

Great Season Lightning Strikes
      The Lightning Strikes Second Grade Soccer team had a great fall 2007 season. Everyone learned a lot, played hard every week and always exhibited good sportsmanship. The coaches - Russell McHugh, Thomas Nastasi (not pictured) and Michael Deluca - would also like to thank all of the parents for their support and assistance throughout the season (especially Michael Boccio for his photos).

Girls Winter Track
      The girl's varsity track team is back on the floorboards for another run at a championship season. Coming off a very strong cross country season the girls look to continue their success during the indoor track season. The team is very deep and gives coaches Erica Fregosi, George Lucas and Tom Skrivanek a high level of confidence as they take on a tough schedule.

Wrestling Off To Strong Start
      The Garden City high school wrestling team has had a solid start to the '07-'08 season. The varsity team finished second at the Herricks tournament on December 1st.

Village Sports
christmas show
      On Saturday, December 15 th , the Recreation Department will hold its annual Christmas Show featuring Bill White, the magician and a special visit from Santa. The show will begin at 10 a.m. and the entrance fee will be a new unwrapped toy which will be donated to Toys for Tots (one per family).

Garden City Basketball - Happy Holidays!
      Friday Night Lights will be active Friday December 14th 7:30pm - 9:30pm at Stewart School. "Friday Night Lights - Streetball" is our Boys 7th thru 10th Grade program. You must be registered and may do so at the door upon arrival. We are off December 21st and December 28th for Christmas and New Years. The program starts up again January 4th.

Buckley Honors Garden City Athlete
      Eddie McNally of Garden City was recognized recently as the Most Improved Player for the 7th and 8th Grade Boys' "B" Soccer Team. Eddie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McNally.
