In Memoriam Isabel Scriba
Eugenia Isabel Scriba, 94, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2007. She was born May 10, 1913 and was a lifelong resident of Garden City. Isabel loved living here and was an active supporter of many community activities and organizations including the Garden City Historical Society, and the Garden City Community Club. She was associated with the Cathedral of the Incarnation from childhood and was involved in many areas including serving as a Cathedral representative to the Garden City Ecumenical Council.
Isabel was predeceased by her brother George Teague Scriba and sister Eugenia Elise Scriba Swett. Her father, George Dundas Scriba, and mother, Eugenia Isabella Scriba, were also long time residents of Garden City.
Isabel graduated from St Mary's in Garden City and, in 1935, graduated from Sweet Briar College where she was a member of the Silver Rose Society.
Isabel is survived by numerous cousins and special friends all over the United States. She was often the person in her extended family who kept people in touch and up-to-date with one another, and was appreciated for remembering to send cards and notes.
She was passionate about painting, the arts, theater and education and supported numerous charities which focused broadly on the arts. She enjoyed painting and was an active member of a painting club in Florida. Isabel spent many summers sailing on the Long Island Sound with her brother and friends and enjoyed spending her winters in the Florida Keys.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 10th at 12:00 Noon in the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. Burial will be a private ceremony at the Church of Divine Love in Montrose, New York.
