The Garden City High School Girls Varsity Cross Country team finished another outstanding season by placing 2nd in the Class A Division and 6th in the County. The team lead by seniors Maddie Adams (5th place overall) and Brooke Senken (7th place overall) ran strong at the Conference II meet at Bethpage State Park on October 28. Their teammates, Laura Martens, Lauren Williams, Victoria Erin Adams and Sarah Leone all turned in outstanding performances with many of the girls hitting their PRs.

The team went on to the NYSPHSA State Qualifying Meet on November 3. Maddie Adams tore up the 5K curse by running her best time (18.57) and finishing 3rd out of a field of 163 runners. Maddie's performance earned her a spot at the State meet. Her team mate Brooke Senken finished 28th overall just missing the cut time for the State Meet. The rest of the team ran hard with impressive finishes in less than ideal weather conditions.

Maddie Adams. Coach Charles Cuzzo was extremely pleased with the team's performance throughout the season. He commented that the girls work very hard throughout the season and it is satisfying to know that Garden City's competition view the team as the "team to beat" in its class. The team has deep talent and with many of the girls continuing to develop and improve their X-C skills, the team will explode next season.

With the cross season behind them, the girls are focused on the upcoming winter indoor season. Early reports indicate that Garden City will be the team to watch in the County. Good luck girls!
