The fall season for the GC Daredevils U13 team was a rollercoaster ride of exciting, challenging and, at times, frustrating soccer which concluded this past weekend with a 1-0 win against Smithtown, which put them solidly in third place. They had to fight for the win every minute, against an offensively aggressive team. Success came from a gritty play by Carly Knowles to win the ball, followed by a "picture perfect" pass to Nicole Bommarito, who gunned towards the net as the defense was closing in. With precision timing, Nicole landed the shot in a beautifully placed goal. This game built on an important 2-1 win the prior week against Oceanside Thunder, in which Nicole and Krista Dampman landed the game winning goals.

However, the season is not defined by a single game, but rather the reflective highlights of several weeks of persistence and teamwork, with important contributions made by all.

Goalie Kelsey Tierney, the quiet leader in goal, is the team's rock. When all else fails, there's Kels! Taylor Pappas and Bitty Furman are the "speed demons on defense" and will not be beat, as proven in every game. Niki Berkery and Brynn Murphy are solid in the center, offering up "skillful boots" that disrupt the opponents' plays. Lauren Coleman is quite possibly the "most feared defender on Long Island", given her speed, strength and determination; she had a fabulous season. At midfield, Erin Greiner controlled the center. Erin is known for her strong corner kicks, which have setup and delivered several goals. Teammate Courtney Studdert joins her at midfield, and often surprises her opponents with her fancy footwork! In their debut season with the Daredevils, Jenna Pasquale and Charlotte Castronovo excelled at midfield, delivering some "killer" game-changing goals. Jacqueline Jahelka demonstrated her versatility throughout the season, playing well on both defense and offense. Lily Schmitt and Victoria Piscopo, sidelined due to injuries, came back strong and showed their knack for offensive moves to setup several plays. Nicole Bommarito took advantage of their passes, as she is credited with several "Bommarito Bomber" trademarked goals this season. Krista Dampman, the Daredevils "feisty forward" also delivered several packages into the net! Jane Frumberg showed determination throughout the season, creating opportunities in front of the goal. Carly Knowles, the "striker wiz," seized those opportunities and contributed several goals this season, while also showing versatility and strength at center and "D." The only silver lining of the ongoing stagehand strike, was having Liesl Jaye, the "most entertaining Daredevil" be able to play in the final games. Her teammates hope to see Liesl soon in her Broadway debut in The Grinch Stole Christmas!

Congratulations, Daredevils, for a great season; and, thanks to coaches and trainers Charlie Frumberg, John Studdert, Paul LeSeur and Lauren Bishar, who guided the girls throughout the first half of their year. See you in the spring!
