Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

Between November 12 and 16, various Nissan cars were broken into in the location of Main Street. Total value of mirrors, tires and rims was over $2700...On November 19, PO K. Wehr arrested a 25-year-old Uniondale man for DWI refusal, slow speed, unsafe lane change, and obstructed view, at Columbia Street in Hempstead...On November 17, 3 AM, PO K. Wehr arrested a 28-year-old West Hempstead woman for alleged speeding, alleged DWI (.09%), and for not being able to stay in a lane at Cherry Valley Avenue... Someone damaged 2 commercial vehicles in the Field 6E parking lot, between November 16 and 17. Mirrors and roof tops were damaged at $1,000 in damage to each vehicle... PO Oswald arrested a 34-year-old Selden man for alleged speeding, no license, no registration, no inspection, alleged DWI (.12%), unsafe lane change, the inability to stay in a lane,and for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, at Clinton Rd. on November 18, at 3:55 AM... On November 17, 3:30 AM, PO Oswald arrested a 25-year-old Westbury man for allegedly driving at a slow speed, defective tires, DWI refusal, unlicensed operation, a missing front plate, no inspection, no registration, and obstructed view, at Clinton Rd... PO Caputo arrested a 30-year-old West Hempstead woman for alleged shoplifting at Sears on November 12, 2:45 PM. It seems the woman took slippers, Guess fragrance , and a child carrier... Between November 10 and 12, someone broke into a NHP Road residence and took a leather jacket, assorted jewelry, a laptop, flat screen TV, VCR/DVD player, stereo, computer monitor, and video consoles. Value was over $10,000... A truck stop was conducted on November 15 on Washington Avenue and 10 trucks were inspected, with 4 trucks taken out of service, and with 39 tickets issued...

Fire Responses:

Workmen sanding set off an alarm at a Wickham Rd. house on November 15... A boiler was shut down on Seventh Street after excessive smoke came from the chimney there...On November 16, a rubbish fire occurred in the rear of a Franklin Avenue office. The cause was a discarded cigarette... Smoke from a faulty fireplace caused alarm at a Chestnut St. house on November 17... Nuisance smoke occurred from an over-loaded washer at a Russell Rd. house on November 17... A fire occurred at a Hathaway Drive house on November 19, and the fire was contained to a playroom where the fire had started. The cause of the fire appeared to be a heater that had ignited children's toys. The electric and gas was shut off... Also on November 19, the FD extinguished another fire that occurred at a different Hathaway Drive address. It seems a 10-year-old boy may have placed dry dog food in an oven, which had dropped to a gas burner causing a fire there...
