Sparks Blow Up The Dynamite
      On Saturday, November 3, the Sparks (GU-12) took on the Rockville Centre Dynamite in gale force winds at St. Paul's. Although the Dynamite had the wind in the first half, the Sparks controlled the play, led by defenders Caroline Beaty, Emma Gallagher and Haley O'Hanlon and midfielders Annie Blanco and Sabrina Rodgers, who kept the Dynamite from mounting any serious attacks.

GC Sting Finishes Season
      On November 4, The Garden City Sting travel baseball team finished up another winning season with a 4-1 victory over East Williston. T.J. Paisley con-tinued to dominate on the mound with three strong innings. Steve Wald and Brian LoRusso provided the relief that secured the win. The entire team played flawless defense with Evan Nagel and Nick Bonnelli making very tough plays.

GC Titans vs. Floral Park Warriors
      On November 3rd, the Titans hosted the Floral Park Warriors at St. Paul's. It was a frigid afternoon made worse by very strong winds blowing from the north. The Titans came out strong and ready to play after being rained out in Massapequa last weekend.

Runner Earns Honors
      Middlebury College cross country runner Jimmy Butcher of Garden City has been named to the All-NESCAC first-team. All-Conference teams are based on results from the recent NESCAC Championship race at Williams College on Saturday, Oct. 27th.

Big Win For The Patriettes
      The Patriettes scored a big win against a first place North Shore team this week end. The Patriettes came out strong and aggressive, using their superior speed and dominating play in their opponent's end throughout the game. The Garden City midfielders tightly controlled movement of the ball. Some well executed passes to the forwards allowed Garden City to score before the half.

Thunder 7s Maroon Finish Season vs Uniondale
      The Maroon 7s faced another tough test sunday playing Uniondale which had only one loss. The game was played at Hofstra stadium which was a huge treat for the boys. The day started rough for the 7s as they went out in 3 plays on their first possession.

GC Rams Girls' Lacrosse 2008 Season
      You may have seen it while driving by the Middle School field and wondered if the game had any rules. To the novice spectator, lacrosse can resemble organize confusion. However, there is rhyme and reason to it, which is obvious in the great success of our High School Girls' Programs. The Rams Girls' Lacrosse program is the starting point to that success.

Soccer Ball Collection
      The Centennial Soccer Club and the GCAA Soccer program are joining efforts to collect new or gently used soccer balls for the children in Iraq. The collection will take place this Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saint Paul's Gazebo. Please help by donating to this special cause.

      On Saturday November 3, the Garden City Flames hosted the Syosset Fire at St. Pauls. The Flames have been concentrating on starting strong from the opening whistle. In this match, the team came through with the game plan as Pat Slovensky scored the first of his two goals in the first minute of play.

The GC Bombers Take On Levittown
      The GC Bombers 9U team finished the fall season with a gritty 12-12 tie vs. Levittown in 40-50kt wind gusts. Joey Rocco and Kyle Ascher were in the middle of the first 2 runs scored by the Bombers but after some early success by the Bombers, Levittown took an 11-5 lead after five innings.

Fireballs Short Circuit Power
      The U15 girl's had to travel out to Center Moriches last week in the early morning to try to keep their terrific season going strong. And the Fireballs took it to the Power and came away with a 2-1 win. Up and down the lineup the Fireballs played solid soccer throughout the match, taking a 2 goal lead early in the second half and holding off Center Moriches for the victory.

Flash Top Great Neck
      On November 3, the GU10 Garden City Flash beat the Great Neck Lightning at iPark.The conditions were, once again, challenging. The wind blew cold and raw and, although it didn't rain, the field was saturated. The Flash did not appear troubled, however, as they charged into the lead.

Garden City Thunder "C" 11's Strafe Baldwin Bombers
      WOW!!!! Like the roller coaster at Asbury Park, this game was exhilarating, energizing, exhausting, even frightening.But when the ride was over everyone was ready to go one more time. In a game that featured more twists and turns than an Ali - Frazier fight, more excitement than a Super Bowl and more heroes than "Heroes", the Thunder came out on top with a hard fought 27 -25 win.

U11 Destroyers Ride The Blue Wave To Victory
     The Destroyers defeated the Hewlett-Lawrence Blue Wave 2-0 last weekend. Conor Sproat and John Malandro led the offense with a goal each. Backed up by Destroyer "D-Boyz", Matt Mullahey played a perfect game in goal. The Destroyers are: (front row, left to right) Brandon Punturo, Conor Sproat, Matt Mullahey, Jack Brennan. Thunder 8's Finish Season With A Win
      Coaches Comiskey, Kufs, Cortese, and Mascola coached the boys in their final game of the season, Bellmore. The boy's came up with a 24- 14 win. Congratulations to all the boy's on their hard work, concentration, and determination. Their dedication to the team made them a huge success. The Thunder 8's ended their season 5-2-1.

GC Thunder White 7's Magic Season Ends in Bellmore
      The Garden City Thunder White 7's traveled to Bellmore this past Sunday for the final game of their Cinderella Season. The "Men of Thunder", six wins and one defeat on the year, were up against an undefeated Bellmore Brave squad. There was a standing room only crowd to witness these two 7 year old teams play on this beautiful fall day.

Wings MS Ice Hockey Team Stuns Roslyn 9 - 0
      The Garden City Wings Middle School Ice Hockey team started the month of Novem-ber with a decisive win over the Roslyn Bulldogs. The two sixth grade goalies, Cody Mackston and Adam Hartog, split the net-minding duties. Their diligent work at practice during the past two months paid off with a shutout.

Girls Volleyball In Playoffs
      Garden City's girl's volleyball team entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed with a quarterfinal game against South Side on November 2nd. Rebecca Langer's 12 kills and three aces, Kaitlyn Olsen's eight kills and three blocks and Allison Castel's 11 assists and four kills led the Trojans to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 victory over the Cyclones.

      With a 5-0 victory over New Hyde Park in the Nassau Class B semifinals on November 1st and a 6-2 victory over Manhasset in the county finals held at Hofstra University on Monday, November 5th, Garden City's girls varsity field hockey team is headed to the Long Island Championship game against Shoreham-Wading River.

Boys Soccer Takes On Jayhawks
      In a Nassau Class A semi final boys soccer game played at Mitchell Field on Sunday morning November 4th, the GC Trojans took on the Jericho Jayhawks. The game was scoreless at the end of regulation and after four scoreless overtime periods, the game was to be decided on penalty kicks . Jericho went on to win 3-1.

Girls Soccer Semifinals
      In a Nassau County Class A girls soccer semifinal game, No.3 Garden City took on Island Trees on Saturday eve-ning November 3rd at Michael Tully Park on Denton Avenue. It took 60 minutes for someone to score, and that someone was GC's Allie Muhlstock who put the ball in the net on a pass from Katie Daly.

      If there is one constant throughout Garden City High football coach Tom Flatley's highly successful two decades it is outstanding defense. That quality was evident again last Friday afternoon at Warren King Field as his team recorded its second straight shutout, blanking MacArthur, 21-0, in the first round of the playoffs.

adult swim at adelphi
      The Recreation Department's adult swim program has begun at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, aged 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Swim, Diving Team Takes Championship
      The Nassau County Swimming and Diving Championships were held this past week at the Eisenhower Pool. The girls were looking for their 9 th consecutive year win. - and they found it. On Thursday, November 1 st , the divers, Sarah Kupferberg and Tina Dampman, competed against 31 other high school divers. Sarah and Tina did an outstanding job and brought points to the team.

JV Football Continues Winning Streak
      After defeating MacArthur 19-0 on Saturday November 3rd, Garden City's JV football team kept their 48 game win-ning streak alive. With key touchdowns being scored on fourth quarter interception returns by Brian Fischer and Joe Tursi the defense outscored the offense. Joe Tursi added a 30 yard field goal as the team finished undefeated (8-0) and extended GC's six year win streak to 48-0.
