Kordes Publishes New Edition Of "Visions of Garden City"
This 1870's photograph is of the Village Stables on Seventh Street (near today's Seventh Street Cafe). This building later, in the 1920's, was converted into Garden City's first Village Hall and was torn down in 1953. This particular image was so faded the building could barely be seen. It has been completely restored for this new book. Village Historian John Ellis Kordes has published a new expanded edition of his popular book "Visions of Garden City." The original book sold out in less than two years and is now out of print. This second edition features much of what was in the original book with one major addition. The new book has 50 mostly never before published archival photographs spread over 16 pages in the now 96 page book. The archival photographs were carefully selected by Kordes for their uniqueness and historic significance. Many had to be painstakingly restored in order to be published. They range in age from the 1870's to the 1970's. Most have never been seen in print by the public before.
The remainder of the new second edition features the professional photography of John Ellis Kordes thousands enjoyed in the first book. The images are displayed by season and reflect almost twenty years of Kordes photography of Garden City. There are, however, several new photos in the book and many other changes including the type of paper used. The brilliant color photography in the book is now on a fine high gloss paper. This edition contains over 200 images in total all of which are complimented by his extensive knowledge of Garden City's history. The combination of today's Garden City and images of its historic past should make this edition the ultimate Garden City keepsake.
This new hard cover "coffee table" style book will retail for $44.95 and will be in stores around Garden City this week.
