Mr. and Mrs. Gerard M. McCavera (Photo by John Ellis Kordes) Mr. and Mrs. Gerard M. McCavera, formerly of Garden City and now living in Media, Pennsylvania and Southold, New York, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with family and friends. Gerry and Virginia were married on September 14 th, 1957 in St. Joseph's Church, Garden City. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with Mass on Friday, September 14 th, 2007. The Mass was celebrated by family friend, Father Thomas Murray, pastor of St. Agnes Church in Greenport in eastern Long Island.

Among the attended guests were their four children and their families: Virginia Mary, a second grade teacher at Stratford School in Garden City, their son Michael Walter and his wife Kim and two children Emily and Jeremy Michael from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, their daughter Maura Ann Mandel and her husband Walter of Chester, New York and son Jeremy Calland and his wife Holly and children Angela and Maximillian from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Michael and Jeremy each did a reading during the service while daughters Virginia and Maura and grandchildren presented the gifts at the Offertory. Their son-in-law Walter sang the Ave Maria for the meditation after Communion.

After the church service and renewal of their wedding vows, Gerry and Virginia hosted a party for family and friends at the Soundview Restaurant overlooking Long Island Sound in Southold, New York and then later at their home in Southold.
