Thunder 9 Maroon Wins Home Opener
      Thunder 9 Maroon won their home opener last Sunday with an impressive 19-12 victory over a very tough Uniondale team. Executing sophisticated plays, the Thunder Offense was able to out-wit and out-run the noticeably bigger Uniondale team, rendering them scoreless in the first half; Thunder led 19-0 at halftime.

Thunder 10's Borges Beat Rival Franklin Square
      It was a rainy windy day in mid September as the Thunder prepared for the game against rival Franklin Square. The Thunder won the coin toss and chose to defer the decision until the second half which meant we would be kicking off and sending our very capable defense on the field to set the tone for the game.

Thunder 10s Tame The Tigers (21-7)
      The GC Thunder traveled to Hempstead this past Saturday to take on the undefeated Hempstead Tigers. The Thunder had a great week of practice and were focused on bringing a "W" back to GC. The game day captains, #24 Darius Iraj, #70 Justin Holloway and #62 Lucas Hildreth won the toss for the Thunder and elected to receive the ball.

Thunder Maroon 7s Outlast Franklin Square
      The Thunder Maroon 7s outlasted a stubborn Franklin Square team last week. The Maroon 7s broke the game open with scoring runs by Andrew DeSantis (2) and James Buckley. The long runs were led by some great blocking by Kieran Paskewitz, Eli Pagonis, Will Honan, Teddy Dolan and Joey Ostapow.

      What a way to welcome in the first day of autumn. The Yankees win, the Mets win, the Jets win, the Giants win, the Boss' birthday (no, not Steinbrenner), and our Thunder 11's dominate yet another team on the road. In fact, the only thing the team lost was the coin toss.

Varsity Field Hockey Beats Massapequa
      The varsity field hockey teams of Garden City and Massapequa took to the fields at GCHS on Thursday September 20th to play a non-league game. Massapequa was last year's Nassau County Class A champion, while Garden City was the Nassau Class B champion that went on to win the New York State title.

      The Girls Varsity Swim Team started their 2007-2008 season with two wins. On September 18, the girls met with the Jericho Swim Team where there was tough competition. Coach Anne Sullivan, once again, did her magic on the line-up.

Thunder 11 Maroon Continue Unbeaten Streak
      Three weeks into the 2007 campaign and the Thunder 11 Maroon team sits at an impressive 3-0. This past Sunday at Stewart field the tough Long Beach Mariners came to town, only to be turned away with a 12-0 loss. For those doing the math at home, that's three games, no points allowed. This defense is stingier than a 6th grader on Taco Tuesday.

GC JV Football Beats Bellmore 46-8
      With 42 consecutive wins, Garden City's boys JV football team seems unstoppable, especially after their convincing 46-8 win over Bellmore on Monday afternoon September 24th at GCHS. Many touchdowns were scored on great plays by the offense while the defense intercepted the Cougars and scored touchdowns of their own.

      Those trying to get a clear picture of the 2007 Garden City Trojans football team keep coming back to the same word - "athleticism." This team isn't big nor does it have a wealth of experience. But look around the offense, defense, special teams and reserves and you see a lot of good athletes.

Village Sports
pastel class beginning
      Our first session of Arlene Urban's pastel art class will begin on Friday, September 21. This program is open to adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will meet for 10 weeks from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Cluett Hall. The cost of this program is $105.

Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Mineola
      Garden City's boys varsity soccer team played a close game against Mineola on September 17th at GCHS. Mineola scored the only goal of the game in the 59th minute leading to their 1-0 victory.
