Cathedral Organist Receives Prestigious Appointment

Lawrence Tremsky Lawrence Tremsky, the Cathedral of the Incarnation's Organist and Choirmaster has been appointed the new Executive Director of the Montreal Boys Choir Course. This volunteer position will involve planning and coordinating all aspects of this course, the oldest of its kind in North America. The course is now in its 48th year. In addition to working throughout the year from the Cathedral, this appointment will involve several trips yearly both to Montreal and Toronto.

Lawrence Tremsky became the Organist and Master of the Choirs at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City in July of 2000. In this position he is responsible for the entire music program of this large, historic Cathedral, which includes choirs of boys, girls, men and women. The Cathedral also sponsors anactive concert series.

A native of Ohio, Mr. Tremsky received a B.M. degree in organ performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1979. He later attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, from which he received a M.M. degree in 1983. His organ teachers have included Wayne Fisher and Grigg Fountain.

Before coming to Garden City, Mr. Tremsky held the position as director of Music at Grace Episcopal Church in Utica, NY, a position he held for eight years. Before that he served for ten years as Associate Organist/Choirmaster at the Cathedral of the Holy Name in Chicago, as the assistant to Richard Proulx. He has been the accompanist for several choral CD recordings, and produced a recording titled A Year of Grace with the Grace Church Choir in 1996.
