GC Jewish Center Religious School Begins Year

The Garden City Jewish Center
The Garden City Jewish Center The Garden City Jewish Center's Religious School begins another fun and interesting year, starting Sunday, September 9th at 9:00AM.

Principal Carolyn Hoera and Rabbi Stephen Goodman once again lead an excellent staff, as students learn about Jewish holidays, culture, history, Bible stories, and how to read and write in Hebrew in preparation for Bar or Bat Mitzvah. The school's philosophy is for students to experience these concepts in a hands-on manner. The children use their senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch, as they create art, listen to (and play) musical instruments, sing with our opera-trained student Cantor, cook and sample traditional foods, and help conduct the weekly children's services as well. The school program is Sundays-only... from 9:00-11:00AM for students Pre-K through second grade, and 9:00-1:00PM for students in Grades 3-Bar Mitzvah. There are Confirmation classes for teens, and a growing Youth Group for informal activities and community service.

The Garden City Jewish Center is a Reform temple, but all denominations and families with dual-faith backgrounds are welcome. Friday services are from 8:00PM - 9:15 PM, with monthly Pot Luck dinners, an active Sisterhood, an Environment committee and Men's club. Children's Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services (Septemer 13th 10:30 AM -12:30 PM and September 22nd 10:30 AM -12:45 PM) run concurrently with Adult services, and the children are kept busy and happy with enrichment activities led by teachers and Youth group volunteers.
