The Massapequa team won Division One this spring. They are a very athletic, skilled and physical team. To their credit, the Garden City Xtreme didn't back off for a second, constantly battling for the ball. After 50 minutes of end to end, well played soccer, the Garden City Xtreme fell to Massapequa 3-1.

The Xtreme knew from a prior Waldbaums Cup match that the Massapequa team gets forward as quickly as any U10 team there is. But this time, the Xtreme were ready and played awesome defense to slow down the Extreme. Katie Roscoe had the tough chore of shutting down the Extreme talented striker. Katie did a remarkable job of marking and taking the space of this important player. This seemed to disable the Extreme from getting any kind of flow or rhythm going on the offensive. If the Massapequa team did get good penetration, the always reliable Deanna DiPierro was there to stop them. Alison Holfster, Colette Seel, Cara Adams and Sam Miesemer played outside stopper for the Xtreme. All four backs marked well and hustled back to defend, not giving the Extreme a numbers advantage. Joanna Sokolovic, Isabel McKeown and Lauren Miesemer were in up front for the Xtreme. These players did a splendid job of going 1 v 1, or making effective attacking runs, to put pressure on the Extreme defense. Joanna put some threatening shots on goal in the opening minutes, letting the Massapequa team know the Xtreme were there to do battle. Jenna Codignotto played keeper the entire match. Jenna made some great saves throughout the game. In the last couple of minutes of the match, the Massapequa team really put a lot of pressure on her, but Jenna stopped one shot after another.

Colette one timed a ball from 25 yards away into the upper right hand corner of the goal. This goal further energized her team and kept them in the match. As the Xtreme have done all season, they gave their absolute best for every minute of this match and the parents and coaches were more than proud of them.
