5th Grade Gray Sweeties Sweep Through Jay Gallagher Tournament
5th Grade Sweeties Put it Home vs. Manhasset The 5th grade girls Gray Sweeties swept their way to three great victories in the 2007 Jay Gallagher Tournament. Many thanks to the parents who provided tents, cool refreshments, fruits, bagels, cookies, shrimp, specialty home-made goodies and especially the Real Italian scooped ices for all. The young ladies handily defeated two fine Manhasset teams by scores of 11-7 and 9-7 building leads of 5 goals or more in each. In their final game versus a tenacious Bayshore squad the team built up a 5-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 6-1 victory. The Sweeties outscored their opponents 25-15 in the process of winning the games.
The games were all about teamwork, great passing and scooping up the ground balls like vacuum cleaners. Evan Molitor played brilliantly in goal for all three contests stopping many one on one attempts. The young ladies were being constantly shifted from home, to midfield, then to defense to keep fresh in the heat. Haley O'Hanlon, Amanda Vione, Kelly Tierney, Katherine Malhame, Alex Riceman, Jackie O'Hare, Julia Dignam, Melanie McHugh, Caitlin Mahland, Katherine Pearson, Kayla Murphy, Sage Fuller, Caitlin Rieger, Regan Marooney, Meaghan Mulhall, Jamie Sweet, Erin Pfail and Michaela all contributed to the team's success. The team was great on draws and played tough defense. Above all - much thanks to the parents who made this a great event to be remembered by the gals for the entire summer.
