American Legion Sponsors Memorial Day Parade
The American flag, signed by Iraq veterans, 9/11 families and Village executives, was presented to the Village by Jim DuPont and the Garden City American Legion On Memorial Day, the William Bradford Turner Post #265 of the Garden City American Legion sponsored the Memorial Day parade and exercises. A large turnout cheered veterans as they marched along Seventh Street to the middle school, where various dignitaries spoke of the sacrifices of departed village veterans. Legion Commander John Donovan, accompanied by Iraq War veteran and parade Grand Marshal Jim DuPont, led the day with a service at the Cathederal of the Incarnation, followed by the parade and dedication exercises at the middle school war memorials.
The American Legion Post thanked village residents who came out to honor veterans and those who made the supreme sacrifice. All members of the military, village services, bands and other units who paraded on Memorial Day are to be complimented for their patriotism.
