The Trojans had done it before. They had won two out of three overtime games this season and one of them was on May 12th against nationally ranked John Jay. Dean Gibbons had passed to Dillon Dwyer with two minutes left in OT and Dwyer scored the winning goal.
Now, here it was, twelve days later and the Garden City boys lacrosse team was playing in it's fourth overtime game of the season and this one was crucial for GC. After all, the Trojans were the defending Nassau County champions and they were playing in a semifinal playoff game against Carey. The winner would head to the final game, and the loser would head home.
Carey began the scoring and took a 2-0 lead. Garden City fought back and tied the game with 5:41 left in the first. By halftime the score was tied at 3 but it took Carey only 12 seconds into the second half before scoring to take a 4-3 lead. The Seahawks scored again, but that was followed by three straight GC goals giving the Trojans their first lead of the game and making the score 6-5. As regulation expired, the score was tied at 8 and overtime was next. Whoever scored first would advance to the Nassau Class B final.

As they say, "practice makes perfect" and once again, Gibbons passed to Dwyer who scored with 23 seconds left in overtime to give the top-seeded Trojans a 9-8 victory over Carey and the right to defend their title. Gibbons ended the day with three goals followed by two from Dwyer. Terry Kennedy, Tim Harder, Dan Savage and Kevin Rose each scored one and goalie Brian McCullough made 13 saves.
Next up was Lynbrook in the Nassau County Class B final on May 30th at Hofstra. The Trojans were able to hold Lynbrook to just six goals, as goalie Brian McCullough made 15 saves, giving Garden City the 14-6 victory and their second consecutive Nassau Class B title.

Although they knew that playing Huntington in the Long Island Championship game might be a challenge, the Trojans came out determined on June 5th at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium and outplayed the Blue Devils during the first 18 minutes of the game. Although Huntington entered the game riding a 62 game winning streak they were probably shocked as the first half came to an end with Garden City only down by two. As the second half played out, Huntington was able to regroup and came away with a 14-6 victory.
Best of luck to this year's GC seniors, including: Dillon Dwyer, Dean Gibbons, Harry Kutner, Robert Stufano, Terry Kennedy, Tim Harder, Tim Holman, Jon Shepland, Kyle Walsh and Peter Costello. The rest of the roster includes: Matt Losardo, John Betts, Jon Muscarella, Dan Savage, Pierce bradley, Chris Attardi, Brian Kentfield, Brendan Carroll, Hayden Fries, Vin CHiodo, Francis McDonough, Joe Alleva, Kevin Rose, Steve Hucke, Reid Rosello, Ryan Lynch, Michael Wood, Ken Wright, Billy Durand, Dan Niebler, Patrick Reeves, Brian Tempesta, Will Manning, Gavin Crisafulli and Brian McCullough
