U10 Destroyers Beat Plainedge

2007-06-15 / Sports

Last Saturday, June 9, the G.C. Centennial boys U-10 team, The Destroyers, played the Plainedge Eagles. The Destroyers, following up on their recent win at home against the Hicksville Gladiators, were able to improve their record with a 5-0 shut out road victory. The Destroyers dominated every aspect of the game with excellent passing, ball control and communication.

The Eagles were able to keep the Destroyers scoreless until half way through the first half when Chris Gormley broke the ice with the first of his two goals. Soon afterwards, Andrew Mohasci added one of his two goals and William Hammersley was able to add to his season total by putting one in the back of the net as well.

It was a breakout game for Nick Sarkis who had an assist and a couple of shots on goal as well. Mark Ollerich controlled the ball well and powered through defensive players. The Destroyers defense was solid as players Harry Furey, Brandon Choi, Brandon Punturo, Connor Brown, Conor Sproat and Matt Mullahey were able to frustrate the Eagles with quick steals and aggressive play.

Goalies Connor Brown and Matt Mullahey had little duty this weekend with four touches the entire game. John Evangelista contributed to the offensive with shots on goal, corner kicks and great passing.

Overall probably the best game played by the Destroyers. Next week, the Destoyers try for another road win as they take on the 5th place New Hyde Park Lions.
