GC Renegades Go 2-1 In Tournament
Scott Irwin breaks up field This past weekend was the Annual Diabetes Tournament in Massapequa. It was a beautiful day for Lacrosse and a big turnout for a great cause. 75 teams from all over were ready for action and the GC Renegades were among them.
The first game was against a big team from Longwood NJ. It wasn't the number of players it was the actual size of the players. At first the size of the other team which was made up of 4th and 5th grade players slowed the Renegades attack. They were bigger but not faster and once the Renegades realized that Longwood never had a chance. The Renegades used their speed to move the ball up and down the field and were running the fast break to perfection. The defense was all over the opposition double teaming them all day long. After all was said and done it was another win for the Renegades 9-2.
The second game turned out to be against the Massapequa Mud Dogs who the Renegades have never beaten. The game didn't start out the way the Renegades wanted giving up 2 quick goals. Just when the Renegades could have called it quits they banded together and fought back. They refused to give up and chased every ground ball, and since the grass was high not many were going out of bounds. The defense buckled down and took the body when needed. It was back and forth all game with both teams scoring goals. The parents for both sides were cheering on their teams so loud it was hard for the kids to hear themselves. When it came down to crunch time everyone contributed and stopped the Mud Dogs in their tracks. The Renegades took control of the game and scored the final goals winning the game 7-6.

The Renegades who like to play an aggressive style of lacrosse was too much for the Titans of Connecticut. The game was continually stopped to tend to the Titan players. No penalties were called and all was legal hard played lacrosse. All we can say is some kids are tougher than others and that seemed to be the case this day.
