GAME 1

The Yankees squeaked by the A's saturday 3-1 in a battle of pitching. Jonathon Granville and Mark DeSantis combined for 5 shutout innings in leading the Yanks. Matt Greene was virtually unhittable for the A's pitching 4 scoreless innings. In the top of the 5th Jonathon Castoro delivered the big blast, a two out 2 run base hit. With the score 3-0 going to the 6th the A's loaded the bases with no outs and had their 4 big sluggers coming up, Mark Eulau, Ray Leto, Matt Greene and Robbie Gavigan. Drew Kiley, came in to pitch and was up to the task. Eulau and Leto made great contact but defensive gems by Kiley and Kenny Nygaard left the bases still loaded and only one run in. Matt Greene then launched a long fly to right center which Chris Misere tracked under and made the catch to end a great game.

GAME 2

The Marlins edged the Mets 4-3 in exciting playoff action. The Marlins' pitching was outstanding, led by Joe Torres and Matt Rogers. The Marlins scored early, behind hits from Justin Samardich and Nayeem Baksh. Brian LoRusso, the Marlins' version of Jose Reyes, stole two bases to lead the charge. The Mets were led by the superb pitching of Marty Waters and clutch hits from Daniel Combatti and Stephen D'Antonio. The Mets rallied on a monster home run by Ryan Giacini in the top of the 6th, but fell one run short.

GAME 3

In Saturdays late game, the Cubs survived a 4 run rally by the Rockies in the bottom of the sixth, to win 7-6. A couple of timely hits by Bobby Clarke (2 for 3) and Steve Wald (3 for 3) off Rockies ace Luke Zeccola early on, got the Cubs going as they took a 4-1 lead after 3 innings. There was superb defensive plays by both teams, especially in the outfield, with some great catches. The Cubs added 2 runs in the fourth, and, as it turns out, a very important run in the fifth, because the Rockies, with 2 outs in their last at bat, loaded the bases and had 2 clutch hits by Louie Pagonis and Albert Soussis and scored 4 runs. But Steve Wald, showing some real guts, struck out the next batter leaving the tying run at third base.

GAME 4

The Phillies upended the Red Sox 6-5 to make it to the semifinals. A 6th inning rally

by the Phillies led to the win. John Dehler and Connor Muldoon led the way for the Phillies while Harrison Furey's barehand stab of a ball to get the force out at home in the bottom of the 6th saved the day. Brian Goulard's ptiching closed the door on the Sox. Nick Giannone, Matt Flynn and Brian Goepfort led the way for the Sox.
