Thunderbolts Continue Winning Ways
      The Thunderbolts, Garden City's 6th grade boys travel soccer team, took on the North Shore Vipers this past weekend and notched yet another victory, their seventh this season in League and Cup play, by a score of 2 to 0. GC clearly had their "A" game working for them and took it to North Shore from the start.

Boy's 2007 Fall Soccer Registration
      Boy's Fall Soccer registration is currently in process. Players in grades K through 6 th who attend school or live in Garden City are eligible to participate. The season will run on Saturday afternoons from September 8 th to early November.

Rookie League Rivalries
      The Rookie League West rivalries continue. This past Saturday saw the Reds and Mets square off in an epic rematch of the '73 playoffs. Bud Harrelson and Pete Rose were on hand to commemorate the event. The play by the boys was every bit as exciting as the Major Leaguers, with Home Runs hit a a record pace.

6th Grade Maroon Team Beats Seaford 8-4!
      The Garden City Maroon 6th Grade boys lacrosse team beat Seaford 8-4 on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Maroon team came under fire within the 1st few minutes of the game as they surrendered the 1st goal of the game to Seaford. The midfielders answered the call and quickly changed the pace of the game.

Xtreme Battle Rockets
      Last Saturday, the Garden City U-10 Xtreme traveled to Farmingdale to play the Rockets. It was a very warm day and the match was played on an artificial surface, which made it feel even warmer. The Xtreme and the Rockets had played a very competitive match weeks before in a Waldbaums Cup game, so it was no surprise that the game turned out to be a highly contested match.

Power Earn Third Shut-Out
      The Garden city Power U-10 girl's soccer team enjoyed their third shut-out this week end, defeating Manhasset, the first place contender in the division. Despite the oppressive heat, the Power had a strong, aggressive start, putting constant pressure on the Manhasset goal. Excellent passing and ball handling allowed the Power to put two goals into the Manhasset net in the first half.

GC Patriettes Tie Floral Park Fusion
      It was a hot, humid, sunny Saturday morning when the Garden City Patriettes took on the Floral Park Fusion in Floral Park. Kelsey Whitney, Alicia Mueller and Annemarie Kane put immediate offensive pressure on the Fusion keeper early in the game. Shot after shot was blocked by the Floral Park keeper.

Goalbusters Defeat Strikers
      On Saturday June 2nd, the U-14 Garden City Goalbusters hosted the Patchogue Medford Strikers at the Community Park. Fortunately, by the time the match started the temperature had cooled off and there was a steady breeze. The Goalbusters played a great game of possession, connecting on one short pass after another.

Boys' JV Volleyball Undefeated Conference Champs
      What comes to mind when one considers Garden City High School sports? Of course, it's excellence and distinction in athletics. On the girls' side, you have lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, volleyball, track and field, soccer, golf, tennis, fencing, and so on. On the boys' side, there's football, swimming, soccer, wrestling, tennis, track and field, lacrosse, baseball, golf, and more.

Rugby Football Union Announces Select Side Teams
      The Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union, (Met Union) recently held several fitness & skills assessment tryouts along with trial matches in an effort to select both U19 and U17 select side teams. The Met Union represents parts of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

Girls 5th Grade Lacrosse Beat Northport
      Shannon Callahan won the opening draw and passed to Annie Blanco who fed Katie O'Neil who fired a shot in the upper corner and GC led 1-0 in the first 30 seconds. Winning the draw again Shannon executed a great give and go with Kayla Walczyk and Shannon bounced one in to go up 2-0.

4th Grade Maroon Team On a Roll
      The Garden City 4th Grade Maroon Team played a tough Cold Spring Harbor Team on their home turf and walked away with a well earned 8-4 victory. It was an 9:00 AM game on a hot Sunday morning but the Maroon Team was up to the challenge. Matt Flynn continued his stellar play defending the Garden City net and was protected by defenseman Alex Wood and Brendan Digan.

      The 6th grade Grey Lacrosse Team continued their winning ways with an impressive victory this past weekend over rival RVC at Skelos Field. It was a total team effort from start to finish in the 8 to 5 victory.

Two GC Athletes Named To Baseball Roster
      Rob Finneran and Matt Colantonio have been named to the Nassau County roster for the third annual HIP Grand Slam Challenge high school baseball all-star game. The game will be held at Citibank Park on Saturday, June 9, at 7:00 p.m. , Rob Finneran is a pitcher/short stop for Garden City High School. A varsity player, Rob Finneran has played with the Midville Dodgers.

GCAA Baseball Pacific League Weekly Highlights
      Giants- The Giants received outstanding pitching this week from Jake Milbury, Michael Bonomi and Michael DeSimone. These three boys have really found their pitching grove as the season has progressed. Cubs - The Cubs continue to show their offensive talent this week with key hits by Thomas Riggers, Jack Mahland and Joseph King.

      Central League season ending wrap-up: The regular season came to end this week in the Central division. Coaches and fans saw many close games this season. In the end the A's and Marlins led their respective divisions as we cruise into the playoffs.

      On Saturday, June 9th, the annual Nassau County Challenger Baseball Tournament returns to Garden City. The games will be played throughout Community Park on all of the baseball fields starting at 9 AM and running until 2:30 PM.

Another "W" For The U-10 Warriors!
      The RED-HOT boys U-10 Warriors edged out the First Place team in their division - the Manhasset Blades - by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, June 2nd. The Warriors are now in 2nd Place, with 2 regular season games to go. A 3rd game, a make-up from a May 19th postponement, gives them an extra advantage to gain more points in the standings over their First Place rivals.

Record Breaking Season For Girls' Varsity Volleyball
      Back on August 27 th , the members of the girls' varsity volleyball team established several team and individual goals, and then they went on a mission. The Lady Trojans' season began with early wins over Seaford, West Hempstead, South Side, and Wantagh, the defending long Island champs, and they never looked back.

GC Sharks Close Season 15-2-1
      The Sharks closed out their season with a come from behind 5-5 tie on Saturday with the U-15 Team Long Island and a 9-2 win on Sunday over New Canaan. Team Long Island shut out the Sharks for 2 quarters with superb goaltending and 6 lucky breaks off the post. The Sharks defense and goalie, Dan Marino held the fast moving, hard shooting Team Long Island to 3 goals in the first half.
